Many people nowadays prepare to have a baby—
They earn a degree, marry, buy a house, wait till 30+ years old.
The cookie cutter roadmap.
Upon discovering my pregnancy,
I was distraught I had not yet accomplished a lot of these societal expectations for “parenthood readiness”.
But now, I realize I should have had a baby MUCH sooner than 30 years old…
Why? Having a baby fixed the multitude of challenges I had in my adulthood.
1. I grew the hell up.
I had no other choice.
I was stuck in repetitive, tumultuous cycles,
and motherhood forced me to break them.
2. I quit nicotine and alcohol.
I had no other choice.
Poisoning myself with these pointless habits
no longer aligned with who I needed to be.
3. I became mindful about my health.
Despite already having to focus on nutrition while being pregnant,
I had to be even more conscious with gestational diabetes.
I had no other choice.
Today, I still continue treating my body well through healthful diet.
4. I found purpose.
I am no longer depressed because I have a reason to live.
My daughter looks up to me,
and I have no other choice but to show her
that life is beautiful and worth embracing.
All I care about now is quality time with my daughter—
that’s the only thing that truly matters in life anyway;
it's the essence of life— family.
